My manifesto...or something kinda like that.

My lover Weezy was in town, and as I sat and talked about myself, he had a lot to add. My manifesto stems from my love for Lil Wayne, I could have done something really deep, but I found doing this a lot of fun, and I get to share a part of myself with the class. So....ENJOY!

Mashup? Sorta? Kinda?

So this is what I came up with! Not perfect! The beginning part is something I recorded while watching George Lopez in my room. I thought it was PERFECT.

My Meme

So, I'm actually working on a Pikachu inspired meme, that infuses many other black and yellow colored things, inspired by Wiz Khalifa's popular song "Black and Yellow", but, that is more complex, so I thought that for now, just to show, I would show my Charlie Sheen (of course), inspired theme. In the spirit of his recent AWESOMENESS!

Tumblr Memes!

So, I am currently obsessed with Tumblr. These are a set of memes that are frequently used on Tumblr. Basically, if you are very familiar with the site you will know that practically all its members can recognize each of these memes. Its gotten to the point where people make their own cartoon strips out of it. I am working on my own with these own memes. Watch this space!

Neo, Plato.

As I was reading and also watching, I drew many parallels, and for some reason, I could not help but just think about social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. I used these specific social media because I have seen how people can become obsessed with and completely consumed by these virtual worlds. Almost as though these become the reality and the real world is no longer their real space. Plato says, “Behold! human beings living in a underground den, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the den; here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move, and can only see before them, being prevented by the chains from turning round their heads”. It is as though this virtual media has trapped human beings, and The Matrix is a more literal perception of how we can be consumed by this. I feel as though today, instead of the red pill, we might have to turn off the airport and step outside.

Touring it!

Tranquility or Stress? :)

I realize now that most of these were stressful!
However my calm spots are all at the computer lab, my other choice was my dorm, which is still on campus...but is one of my main sources of stress!

I had a bit of trouble putting up the slideshow without it involving my other photos. Hope we can troubleshoot this in class!

My day off from class!

Marshall McLuhan Assignment 1

As I was reading McLuhan's "The Medium is the message", the phrase at the very beginning that states, " This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium- that is, of any extension of ourselves- result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by new technology" (page 203). In essence, any form of technology now, as advanced as it is, has become an extension of ourselves. I do not know how many times I have seen people glued to their phones, or social networking sites, or laptops, etc, instead of actual human interaction. This phrase denotes that now we need these things to almost feel as though we exist. Making sure that our presence is felt somehow through these technologies. When McLuhan however states, " The serious artist is the only person able to encounter technology with impurity just because he is an expert aware of the changes in sense perception" (page 208), I do not know how I feel about it because even with the rise of technology, I feel that artists are being able to find different ways to improve their art form, or even derive inspiration from it.
